Here's another place for seeing some terrific photos of the aurora borealis and other things of the sky. http://solar.spacew.com/gallery/
It's running a bit slow this evening due to the current, ongoing auroral storm. That server also hosts a forum for aurora enthusiasts and needless to say, it's been quite busy the past couple of days.Â
Unfortunately, we have too much cloud cover here to see much of anything.Â
** today I got this email from a freind of mine ...is in my fantasy football league...thought I'd share it....
I'm going to do what I can to make some part of this!!! Looks like fun...
As some of you know, I was working on the development committee for the Make A Wish Foundation in the MN chapter. You may have read that many of the volunteers of the MAW MN chapter decided to resign from the charity because of conflicts between the national chapter and the MN chapter. The leading issues in the dispute had to do with the national chapter trying to curtail some of the types of wishes and recipients of the wishes that the MN chapter wanted to grant. Namely, enforcing a minimum age of 2 ½ or older for children (and their families) with special needs or diseases to be granted wishes; not allowing the chapter to award memorials to the families of those that lost a child before a wish could be granted; and trying to prevent the MN chapter from awarding such wishes as hunting trips.  Because of these disagreements, most of the volunteers decided to start their own charity which will allow them to more freely determine to whom and what type of wishes to grant. The new charity is called WISHES & MORE. In doing so, they have received the backing from many of the local celebrities and funding groups that had previously been with MAW of MN.  To get this charity officially started, there will be a kick-off / open house at Tom Ried's (near Xcel Center) this Saturday Nov 14th from 4 PM to midnight. It will allow you to learn more about the charity, meet celebrities, and learn what opportunities there are to get involved if you like.  I know many of you are involved and/or give to many needy charities, but this is an opportunity to learn about one that I feel strongly about. If you have the time on Saturday, please consider stopping by Tom Ried's.

Another coronal mass ejection is due to impact the Earth after approximtaely 18:00 to 21:00 UTC on 10 November. More likely, it will arrive during the early UTC hours of 11 November (later tonight for North American observers). After it arrives, periods of auroral storming are expected to resume. Although there is a chance for a resumption in strong storm activity, we do not expect this disturbance will be as strong as in previous days.
This warning will remain valid through 23:00 UTC (6 pm EST) on 12 November. It will then be updated, downgraded to a watch or allowed to expire altogether. I find the best time to look is the time I shoulda looked but found out about it too late. Of course that makes it a little hard for me to see them....
Out of the approximately 75,000 movie screens in the world, only 50 are equipped for digital projection. And in the United States, less than one-tenth of the 35,000 screens are ready for digital movie
displays.
According to John Fithian, president of the National Association of TheaterOwners (NATO), the transition over to digital cinemas has been slow going mainly due to cost.
"A top of the line [film] projector costs $30,000 and lasts 30 years," says Fithian. "A top of the line digital projector costs $150,000. The financial comparison doesn't make sense."
Heh, remember that Jones Holiday soda pack? They had em in their online store for bout half an hour this morning, all sold out, and now they're on ebay runnin 50 bucks (with 20 dollar shipping!).
If anyone sees any at their local target, buy em! Heck if they're going like that might as well make some money. I'll even list em on ebay for the non-auctioners :)
WOW!!! I thought it was very funny but idn't know they were selling in the stores here.
and thanks Kitch for the 'digital' education. thats cool
Â
Ribfest-I thought the same thing: Maybe we will go now -BUT, I recall that there was 50-75 thousand people in downtown Minneapolis for it and I thought that was too many people to cram into downtown. Now they say it would be roughly 175,000 on the Island! Yikes- where are they all gonna park? Maybe I should sell my yard for parking like they do at the fair.
KCBS sanctions over 50 barbecue contests each year. KCBS sanctioned contests are from Florida to British Columbia. There varieties of meats and the styles of cooking reflect the diversity of great barbecue across the US.
Heck the best of the best never go to events like this...
the cooks at the "ribfest" usually won't compete at this level....because they will get "killed"....and that is not good for restraurants to say they are not that good.
I have a buddy that has a 10k smoker that he made himself and competes almost every weekend.
I only did it once....is just tooo much $$$$ for me....I spent about $500 to win nothing....
probably wouldn't want to find it while geocaching... I can't imagine they didn't though, if it was emitting enough gamma radiation to burn someone in close proximity, should be enough to easily scan for.
Thanks all, we have been kind of waiting for this to happen since her stroke In August of 2000. She had the hart attack in her sleep, I guess I am just happy that we did not have to put her in a nursing home for her last years.
follow the other links....looks like some storm chaser in nebraska....he has a ton of other great storm shots!!!

It won't be near that.
perhaps the "island" will sink ;) lol
It goes on for at least a week. It's not like all 175,000 would be there at one time.
It's been a while since I went, but I think it runs a Friday through the next Sunday.
It's over-rated if you ask me.
It's overpriced if you ask me.
Maybe that'd be a good time to go searching for that letterbox cache on hariett island.
It is overpriced and overrated....
