Hey Cooler Crew,

Me2's sister here.

Just got a call from Treasure Chest & Aries on their honeymoon.

Please say a prayer for Treasure Chest's stepdad who had a stroke today.

Sad news me2.  Same with TC's ol' man.  That sux!

Speaking of things that suck and candles, here's a picture of a candle holder you shouldn't buy.  Don't buy any candle holder that has a top on it.  If you happen to get a tea light with an off centered wick , you're screwed. I'm just glad I was able to 'rescue' the family.  Just an FYI is all.

TC - We will keep him in our prayers.  Hope the damage was mild.

Candles always have the potential to start fires.  As much as they are beautiful when they are burning, they should never be left unattended.  We got lucky once that we were right there some years back when one lit candle misbehaved.  Since then, I hardly ever light them except once in a great while for a nice dinner for two...and then only for that short while.

For goodness sakes TC! I am soooo sorry to hear about your stepdad!!GEEESH! :( what is with the last 6 months around here!?

and thanks a lot everyone for your 'candle support' -makes people want to go right out and buy them from me! ;p ::::

We had an incident years back where we fell asleep on the sofa and the candle set our curtains on fire! we woke up fast to a huge WHOOOSH! But we still love them. The smell and warmth.

Do Notleave candle holders burning on top of your tv or vcr- the excess heat will cause the holder to break - which gives a big wax mess- and possible electrical fire.

OT - They were spectacular!!!!!!!!  Really butt-kicking aurora!!!!!!

We had quite an intense show right here at home in the middle of the city - with color even!  Greens, red, orange curtains and then later this evening after our trip out to dark skies and back, there were blue/purple/green pulsating beams right over the house!

From the time it got dark until just a bit ago when some high clouds started moving in, there's been one heck of a light show.  It changed in intensity and type of activity, but has been steady and is still ongoing if you have clear skies.  Thankfully we did most of the night.

There is a chance again for tomorrow night.  Check right after it gets dark.

This auroral storm is so strong that folks from the east coast to the west coast have seen it and all the way south into Georgia and Texas.  Amazing!  If you missed this, you truly missed a great show.

Right after dark = 5:30pm.  That's when the aurora was visible last night.

Of course it means nothing if the clouds don't move out for tonight.

Re: [The Allison Wonderland] an early itch..

I'm afraid there isn't much help.  It's still over two months away.
Unless perhaps someone has a mock hunt planned for sometime soon (I've
been real busy this year and have been somewhat out of the loop)

**looks like allison is alive**

I'm not doing this hunt that I worked on....I can't find the time to be around for a week or so.

hmmm...but I have a VERY NICE PRIZE FOR one

"According to the NASA Web site http://www.spaceweather.com/, "Solar wind conditions are favorable for a geomagnetic storm now (late Nov. 7th) and may become even more so when the CME (magnetic particles from the sun) arrives. Sky watchers: be alert for auroras on Nov. 7th, 8th and 9th. The best time to look is usually around local midnight."

It was amazing last night, looks like we might get a couple more nights out of it.

Ha! I was out at 11:00 last night, after I heard all the people talking about em at 7, didn't see squat except stars. Best to look after sunset tonight I'm thinkin.

SOURCE EVENT

X2.0 Major Flare from Region 10696 on 07 November 2004
Type II: 697 km/sec
Estimated LASCO-derived Plane of Sky Velocity: 1100 to 1770 km/sec

ESTIMATED TIME OF ARRIVAL OF SHOCK AT EARTH

Estimated Impact Window:

22:00 UTC on 08 Nov
to
21:00 UTC on 09 Nov

Preferred Predicted Impact Time:

03:00 UTC on 09 Nov (10:00 pm EST on 08 Nov - TONIGHT)

Estimated Shock Strength (0=Weakest, 9=Strongest):

6

Predicted Behavior of IMF at Shock Impact

At Shock Impact, the Interplanetary Magnetic Field is predicted to initially turn:

SOUTHWARD

EVENT #67 NOTES:

A major class X2.0 proton flare from Region 10696 is responsible for this event. A full halo coronal mass ejection was observed in association with this activity. A high velocity was observed in the plane of sky measurements, suggesting this could be a significant disturbance when it impacts the Earth if the imbedded magnetic fields are oriented favorably. Impact is expected to occur sometime near 04:00 UTC, give or take several hours. Major to severe geomagnetic storming will be possible if the imbedded fields are favorably oriented southward. We expect to see another magnetic cloud passage associated with this event, thus some significant geomagnetic and auroral storm activity is possible. For North American observers, this activity could occur as early as TONIGHT, 08 November 2004.

The best time to look is usually around local midnight

I'm not sure why that is usually stated because it's seldom correct.  The best time to look is when the storm hits and the indicators are all going up.  I've seen aurora right after sunset and right before sunrise.  Midnight timing is more likely in the summer when the skies don't become truly dark until later.

Every aurora storm is different in intensity, duration and magnitude.  Last night's was one of the strongest and is rare that people in the southern US can see the lights.

Here's an E-mail I received from Trent tonight:

Hey Clue Master,

Great to hear from you -- though I think I've been hearing your voice and seeing your face for four frikkin' years now.

Yes, we're mega-busy with the family and with finishing up "Cold Feet."  We should have our screening dates in a couple of weeks.  We're shooting for a week run in mid-January.  It'll probably be screening in MPLS because we just have been unable to hook up with a decent Saint Paul theater that has the ability to screen digital video.  As soon as we know the dates, we'll send out an e-mail to everyone.

The DVD, which will contain anywhere from 4-6 hours of footage/extras (the film is only 2 hours, and covering this hunt adequately in 2 hours is impossible), will most likely not be done until March or April when "Cold Feet" will start hitting the film festival circuit.  If "Cold Feet" does well in January in MPLS, I'm sure it will have many more runs in the Cities.

In other hunt news... It looks like Steve's revising his book, and Mr. Med Hunter is coming out with a book on the hunt's history.  This is all very exciting news.  The hunt continues to grow and grow.

Re: Election.  Yeah, that whole "Democracy Plaza" thing was crazy.  It probably seemed small on TV, but in real life it engulfed all of 30 Rock -- totally crazy and a pain in the butt for all of us who work there.

I hope all is well with your family.  We tried to get your daughter into the film, but the footage we have of her from that one night is not too great.  I might bring a camera with me in 2005 to just shoot a couple of quick things (don't worry, I'm not covering any more hunts), so I might be able to get her on the DVD extras since I have a month or two after the 2005 hunt to make changes to the DVD.  We'll see how that goes.

Take care and keep in touch and say hi to the gang from us...

Trent

I wonder if they'll show up tonight.  I'd be happy with any shot even 1/10th the quality of those.  WOW
