Hunt for the Pioneer Press medallion!

The Pioneer Press medallion has been found. Details are at our Winter Carnival page.

The hunt's over, but the discussion rages on ...

The server strain is becoming unbearable. I feel like somebody pressed the "Mute" button on me. If I ever get this message through, I just wanted to say that New Daddy is my hero for the evening.

That Chipewa idea ia pretty good. I can't make it back out there tonight, but I see something else in the first line of the new clue. Really hip=cool and whip. Cool Whip=what the medallion is hidden in, a cool whip container.

"Zoom" is the binocular lenses on Cherokee Avenue..kids put a quarter in it to see everything.

Right next to that is the "Rose" Garden.... those are the first three clues...I think its taking us on a journey
Next was The "Division" and "City Streets" "Baker St." and than "Chippewa St"...

Doesn't Baker run into Chippewa? I drove by there tonight and you can probably see all the objects from there on a little sliver of the park.

Maybe "tip" is referring to the very end of the park? Like at Chippewa & Annapolis on the corner? NEW DADDY--your locale sounds good, how's the view of the pyramids from there? Are they rising out of the snow? MAN! THIS SERVER IS P#@$ING ME OFF!!

Did Tomski head out? Anyone else from cooler.com heading out tonight?

I'm afraid the new clue didn't buy us too much...

What about the line of double division intersecting with Chippewa?

This might be the place!

I think the cool whip is more it then chippewa cause it says not really hip

Not going tonight, still too vague. Definitely near Chippewa. We need the cross street next.

Well, I'm back. The ever faithful eyes, ears and legs was able to penetrate my fog and awaken me. However, I was not happy about it and couldn't figure out the least bit from this new clue, and so when her cell phone AGAIN went dead, I prepared myself for some much needed rest...

UNTIL..... LIKE A BOLT.... I remembered something I'd read here... What, just three, four days ago? Seems like a lifetime!!! Thank you, gods, for having me read each and every post that was put here!!!

I flew downstairs, got on here... and the Faithful Seeing Eye Purrson is off and running. Too, it sure did help having had the major in college I had.

Yes, hope to be in clover in a bit... but doubt it. Oh, well. At least I'll have the satisfaction of being able to say I was the only only only purrson to speak of one single edifice that can be viewed from this vantage point.

Go, folks!! It's there and DON'T GO TO MOUNDS!!! May the BEST DIGGER WIN!!!!!

Sheesh, can I go back to bed now?????

All I know is that all of the digging on Cherokee tonight is due to the fact that we have internet service where we can sit and work this stuff out. Without it, there wouldn't be as many people out there. The Chippewa clue is only there to assure us that indeed Cherokee is the right spot. It's typical for the next clue, after a pretty obvious guess, would be the one saying, "Hey you guys we're right, it is Cherokee". But they haven't told us anymore about where in Cherokee other than a Cool Whip container in the snow.. Somewhere. I feel kind of crazed that I cant head out there again. But alas I was out till 2 in the morning last night looking and until 10:30 tonight. A man's gotta sleep sometime, I just hope I dont sleep through the win. If I do, I hope it's the cooler gang. Good Luck!

Just past Wyom/Chippewa intersection, There's a break in the trees that lets the capitol dome show along with evrythin else - WHY WOULD THIS CLUE ONLY GIVE US CHIPPEWA???

Who was the one from the cooler with the video camera that was taping me at Winona and Chippewa? Just curious.

Maybe it's not the cool whip container but a Way Cool Bandana (attire). A usual tip is 15 - 20% but that doesn't help either. What would be a cool tip?

J: Casey's not talked to us. Think he would tell us, but the last time he spoke he said it WOULD be posted on the WC home page. Have you checked there? It's been two hours and they have to turn the Med in rite away... I'm thinking it's *not* been found.

I've not checked.

I talked to a couple people that were down at the paper, said a guy and a gal where there and that their friend had found it, the people I talked to said the people at the paper where out at their car talking to them about it, but would not confirm it. It was the talk around the fire pit. I don't know, so I quess we wait.

Ah, well. It's gettin' late, y'all. If it's not found yet, I'll chat with you all around the noon hour. Unfortunately, that's about when Joe Medallion's on recess. Don't expect to get much word in while he's having conversations with himself. Luck to all. Water Cooler Heads Will Prevail! -- unofficial motto of the the 1998 Water Cooler Clan

No confirmation that its been found yet. If Chippewa is one street, I don't see why you wouldn't consider Baker the other street. But I've only been out there once and don't quite have my bearings. Is that corner (actually they don't meet) where the pyramids and picnic tables and so forth are?

Tue, 02/03/1998 - 12:00 AM Permalink
Allison Wonderland

Also it seems to be the consensus that "not proper attire" means you should do something else with the words cape and whip. But is it possible they're trying to say stay away from Chippewa? Probably not, but I thought I had an idea where it was and Chippewa didn't fit into it.

David- the bathrooms with the pyramid roof are about 4 blocks west off Curtis st.

I'm back. Last person there. I see it hasn't been found. I thought it might have because there were at least a doz. people out at this time last night. Maybe warming up for the next shift. Anyway I got bored by myself and did a bit of artwork for the Cooler crazies. If you're out at CP you might stumble across it and ask yourself what the hell does this mean. I have a quick one line clue to for you....

{"Every dog has it's day, at leashed that's what people say".}

I hope this 'points' you in the right direction. You will know the artist by some familiar initials. See you out there.

More of a "I know what that means" kinda thing to impress all of your friends. Like I said - I was REALLY bored. A lot of work chipping and scraping. I need to get at least SOME use out of it. I like the point idea. I'm late getting back and was wondering why everyone was at the far end of the park. Don't think so though. Most other clues fit farther into the park.

snow is 100% trampled and frozen solid, however only 10% of snow has been dug

I've steered clear of the sledding hill why wreck the kid's fun? Don't think they wouldve hid it there anyway, too much daily activity.

Dad & Kar

I gotta tell ya. Sunday nite Kar and I were looking for medallion and while leaning on shovel I noticed a middleaged man about 20 feet from us dig up something small about the size of an card and he put it in his pocket and grabbed his shovel , went to his car [lincoln] and got on his cell phone. He appeared to be quite exited and left after talking for 10 minutes. Now I realize all the clues lead to the exact spot he found this. But why wouldn't he turn it in?

Tue, 02/03/1998 - 12:00 AM Permalink
Deb Speidel

The sledding hill is on the wrong end of the park, i thing you need to be between the bathrooms and the smoke stack and the cathedral, there is a clue that says something about seeing the smoke stack and you'll be BACK-then the next clue is the 3 pyramids.... i think it is on the north end of the park between cherokee street and chippewa, where baker street runs into them all, on the highest point where you can see the bathrooms-- i was there last night, but it was too dark-- not alot of digging there either!!!

I think 2 things,One it could be at the intersection of Cherokee(Clue#9) and Chippewa(#10) and the next street down is Baker St.(Dough clue#7)....the other is Annapolis and Chippewa cause of the double division.Hey I hope someone on here wins. You all have been a big help to me and I hope I was of help to you!!!
