Are you talking about the civic center?

Maybe the medallion is hidden in "a tire" or tire swing, and at this point in the park you can "a spire" on a church?

Well put, Flynn!! It's gotta be at one of those two spots, I think...

How important does everyone think it is to be able to see the Capitol, the Cathedral and the NSP smokestack all at once?

My theory from earlier this evening seems off, what with the newfound importance of Chippewa Avenue.

It's a true friggin' b-itch to get back on this thing. And in a minute when I try to actually send this post to the cooler it may be a b-itch then too. Everything is a clogged up mess on here. I hope someones right about the Baker and Chippewa link, look for the Cool Whip container. Although earlier someone said they dug up that spot because the corner of those 2 intersections forms a point which points you to the "plume of smoke" and the "cathedral"-dome. I think that the location wont be quite so close to someones front yard. If they put it 30 feet from someones front door, a person is bound to see that thing being planted, run out and pick it up. Damn these clues are well written. Everything that has been brought up around the cooler sounds like the right place, but they all seem wrong somehow too. That's what I call clever writing.

Is there a church spire seen from Cherokee? Sounds like something there. A tire sounds good too. Too many ideas - not enough facts. Anyone noticed a church?

Terry- there is a church on Annapolis less than a block from Cherokee...

If I remember right, there is a Lutheran church on Annapolis, maybe a block or two toward Smith Avenue from Chippewa. This is near the Annapolis/Chippewa corner. Is this what you're looking for?

It isn't as much fun here as it's been the past several nights. Whether I was coming in from the dig effort or waiting until others came in, the messages were flying fast and furious. I don't know what we're doing different that has been so taxing because I see the same friendly names that have been here before. The only thing I can think of is that a lot of folks are hanging in the background and listening in. But it's been like this all day.

Anyway, here's a tidbit... I have to believe the medallion is hidden within view of the one good sledding hill at Cherokee, which is at Chippewa and Annapolis. You can stray maybe as far as Winona to the north or Cherokee Heights to the west, but I think Baker is too far away. Remember, last time it was at Cherokee, they put it between King and George -- too close to Baker. It's definitely at the south end of the park, in view of the pyramids and the "Rosebud" hill. You can still see the other landmarks (including the Landmark stack) through the trees from there.

Well, I'm going to bed. I already skipped out of work today to look for the prize and tommorow I work both of my jobs till late. So I don't know if I will have the chance to look again. But with luck I might. I will talk to you all tommorow evening. G'night.

Fair Trade - doubt you'll be alone. There's many people out there. I'm getting some sleep. Probably will dream about this clue tonight. It's a lot of information but could only be Chippewa. Seems they used much scrambling of words this year. Only two clues left. Good luck to those going out. See you tomorrow night. Maybe the planet will have a bigger, faster server tomorrow.

And just four more lines as I clean the tines,

on my rake of the ice and the snow.

The clue although good tells us that we should,

hit the hay and try tomorrow.

GOOD NIGHT Y'ALL, and may visions of ice blue medallions dance in your heads, hopefully not ice blue Halls eucalyptus though. :{)}

"We'd be the first to say that a place to play can make any winter more pleasureable... With this in view, you'll soon be back..."

How come nobody listened to me about doubles???? Tonite's clue is yet again (IMHO) a second reference to something. And, it's not going to be in a cool-whip container, but a box that previously contained adhesive strips.

I'm very happy to say that crow and egg are favorite foods of mine, so if I'm wrong at least I will NOT go hungry for the rest of my life!!! LOL!!!!!

couldn't go to bed without responding to you crow eater. You seem mighty sure of yourself that it's not Cool Whip, but you don't know. I doubt it's in an adhesive bandage box, since it was in one of those last year!

I hope C remembers the numbers... since "pace" is not a noun but a verb... At least for diggers this year....

Next year I'm taking way cool more days off. And hope to have proper Digger attire in which to search.

Yea, Shovel Boy. i'm getting pretty cocky. Prolly wrong, but "aid" was in a clue if you remember... as was "cure" last year... And this year there are so many "doubles" in everything. I'm of the belief that they will double up last year's idea, but use a Band-aid box instead of a Curad box. just my opinion.

Sleep tight, boyo!!! Never know, we may all be wrong and YOU may be out there tomorrow getting the Med in a Cool Whip container!!!

Casey... I'm gonna fill the void here for a sec. Please don't get grumpy...

Saturday nite at the dinner for the cat show judges at the Civic Center we were served wine. I was really tired ("Duh!!") and didn't pay too much heed when someone mentioned it was - and it REALLY WAS!!! - "1998 Winter Carnival Wine." I thought that odd... A wine specifically for the Carnival... but didn't give it too much thought as I was so tired... Wonder why??? DUH!

When I finally DID look at the bottle, I let out the biggest yelp you EVER heard!!! The wine, bottled in Stillwater was "Prairie Rose" wine, and had TWO pink roses on the label!!!! I could hardly keep still!!! Somebody, ages ago - here - had mentioned prairie roses and that "Rosebud" was a name for them.

Gotta love the doubles, dont'cha???? "Gimme, gimme, gimme DOUBLE DIVISION." Good words for a song, that!

I can't wait for next year!!!!

I don't know if its true, and I'm not trying to spred rumors, but I just came from the sight and there is a lot a talk that someone found it about 11:00.

IMHO you're both wrong. Not Cool Whip. Not bandage box. It's in a bottle from Pace Picante Sauce. Hey what if they DOUBLE up and put it in Como again? Well, we can't get anything out of this new clue, so off to bed. Maybe our brains will work in the morning.

Hi Dave - I was the one filming last night. Hopefully there will be more of us early morning diehards out tonight. Sounds like it could be a bit cooler but who cares. I'll be filming again tomorrow (if it's not found yet) bumping around down at the press and up at CP. Hope to see you all there. Heddin up soon. Good ideas tonight. I don't get a chance to think for myself anymore. I think that I'll wait a few minutes tomorrow before looking in here and figure out some things for myself like it used to be. Then grab the correct info from the Cooler.

Greenslvs2 - Still on the Bandaid box huh? 'Stick' with it.

Clue Master!!!! Where you been??? I'm a tenacious old fart, gonna stick with it to the end!!!! Yup, a Band-aid box!!! I've come a long way since thinking a pasta box or a box for long-stem roses... in Battle Creek Park!!!

You're too funny!!! One of the things I've enjoyed the most about The Cooler and The Coolerphiles has been the humor. Such a good group and some of this stuff has kept me in stitches for hours. WAY TOO COOL!!!

Hi, I've been on here since post 1 but have only posted a few times more recently. I want to say that I think it would be a good idea if the water cooler had some basic rules that we try to follow.

Stuff like saying the medallion is found would obviously be against the rules but also would be the reaction by everyone else. I mean we all ask who, where, when, why, and get all stirred up which is totally frusterating to filter thru to get some real worthwhile comments. And the one line posts like hey so and so check your e-mail or the bickering of its in this park, no your an idiot it's in this park That's so stupid but again it makes for so damn many posts to sort thru. And now people will say this post is an example of what I'm complaining about. But somebody has got to ask everyone to start thinking a little about each other and act more social and polite and intellegant. Thanks for taking time to read this and considering it.

Looks like the server is not so weighed down anymore so I feel like it's safe to post. greenslvs2: that Prairie Rose is a good wine, but would Orson "Rosebud" Wells sell it before its time? Now that's the real question...

Tue, 02/03/1998 - 1:18 AM Permalink
LostRaven

When is a cape and a whip hip? Hip meaning in style or cool. During the carnival its hip for vulcans. So if they don't recommend that attire could it be because you will be in front of the king (King St) which is the vulcans arch rival.

LostRaven: You've voiced feelings we've all had lots of times here. But, in acutality, I can't see the PP doing what you've asked. They really can't, I don't think, as this is a public forum.

Earlier tonite I rambled on about us guys policing ourselves. I think that's what we've got to do. From experience... and let me say that I've egged Joe Medallion on once or twice!!! Well!!! I get tired and bitchy, too!!! I'm only human!... If you ignore the jerks and don't give them the recognition they want, the leave in a big hurry. But, it is hard NOT to react to bozos.

And some folks - and I'm a PRIME example - can't reach whom they're trying to contact (I've only one phone line) unless we post here. Sssssoooo... I try to post in the least abtrusive way I can - a quick one-liner. Sorry!

The bickering you refer to is just another part of what this forum is all about - freedom of speech. Gotta remember it *is* a newspaper letting us - each and every one of us! - freely voice what we feel in our hearts to be true. Can't do that alot of places. At first I wanted to knock heads together when folks couldn't see *my* way or kept asking the same question over and over. Finally it got to be funny to me!!! They weren't taking the time to seek info like I was and I could laugh at them. But, yea, still, I *did* step in a couple times and mention my displeasure at going over and over the same stuff. But, I really tried to curb my ire... as... well, it was their loss... not mine. It won't be the late comers that ask "What's the scoop?" as each clue is posted that's going to win. It's going to be the diggers - either with shovel or mind. Yup. You betcha!!!

Hope this helps. Just don't feel like the Lone Ranger in your frustration!!! Nope!!! Been there, done that!!!

Bonus...just a few regulars to chat with. There's not much more to dig out of the new clue so I'll just share some sleepy ramblings for a few more minutes LostRaven: I agree with you fully about the rules of posting, but unfortunately we're going to get fools in this kind of public setting. And if we tried to break the group down any, we'd be getting away from the community spirit of the hunt. I'm just as miffed by the likes of "Joe Medallion," but he isn't much different than the folks who plant fake medallions and those who run off from popular dig sites with horns blaring and arms waving something out the window. For the most part, this has been a real pleasant experience. It's easy enough to wade through the crap -- a little time-consuming, perhaps, but I can tolerate a few weeds in a garden this inspiring.
