It's time for the Medallion Hunt! The first clue will appear on PioneerPlanet just after midnight Saturday, Jan. 22. Come back here to compare notes with other treasure seekers, but be certain you read the rules on the Planet's Winter Carnival page.

do like the kstp theory!! Haven't thought of that.
I got Newell from that Gonna Get It This Year. Newell has a baseball diamond, tennis courts, and a basketball hoop. Also. Fairview FAIRway scene-View FAIRVIEW 9+5+4= 18 18 Wheeler= Wheeler St. Who was the president 150 years ago? Taylor= TAYLOR st. All these streets run into Newell? I dunno
I may have jumped in the chat a little late, but I was wondering what anyone else thought of the "flying downhill" idea? Could it be downhill skiing, if that's the case it points to como.
I was at Newell over lunch. No one there but the usual lunch crowd. Nobody got out a shovel. However, the popular outdoor attraction alluded to could be Midway Stadium--very close, and probably the only outdoor attraction in the Saintly City of any size...
think that PHALEN is a great golf cousre and it shouldnt be wrecked by the medallion hunt. Its great that they told everyone first hand that it wasn't on a golf course
As for Mounds Park being ruled out, in last years hunt, the clues referred to "pyarmids"--this sent hundreds searching on the first Saturday of the hunt--no one challenged the Mounds. I think if they were scared of people messing up the burial grounds, they would have nixed that clue. After all, people are going to go there whether or not it buried there, so what the heck....
I feel that When the PP said a Golf Course is not, follow this advice and you won't be caught at the wrong scene, they were saying that it is at a park without a golf course. Also, # could mean the scoreboard at Midway Stadium. Also, front door could mean the doors at Newell Rec building. I dunno
Ok here's what I think... I think that highland would be a good bet because of the 2 golf course, but phalen has a golf course, baseball diamonds, tennis courts that could be where the numbers and score thing come from, but the downhill has me confused, same with the front door.
As the founder of Newell Mania (and yes I try to stir it up every year) I doubt all of the clues that 'point right to Newell'. The more park-specific the clues get early, the less likely the prize will be found in a small park such as Newell. Review the clues from past years at coolercrew.com and you will see that only the large parks are 'given away' early. Otherwise the hunt has little chance of lasting more than a few days.
That said however, my medallion sniffing hound Sassafras and I just returned from a digging expedition at Newell, and we are sure to find the treasure any day now.
went to Phalen last night, checked the fields, skating rinks, courts, no sign of a 945, lasst night they were saying the positions 9-4-5 make a straight line from 3rd to 2nd to right field???
Pat, I was at Newell at about 3:30, no one was there. I think the prize will be lined up with a house with the address ??95 and it will be with a circle of 4 trees. Also in line with the doors at the Newell service building
Don't be too sure there has to be a golf course for the Mom Press to warn people off of them. Last year people were digging up Mounds Park long after it was obvious the medallion was at Cherokee. Two years ago people were digging in the Frog Pond for over a week after it was obviously out in a field nearby. This despite the fact that every inch had been excavated multiple times.
Every year someone thinks it is on a golf course (including this year despite the explicit notice that it is not), so a warning is always in order regardless of the site.
birdie 15, they never ever ever ever ever give away the kind of information you are talking about this early in the game. Ever. The most you can hope for are some basic information that becomes clearer with the later clues, along with a possible hint at what the medallion is hidden in. If I am wrong, though, I will gladly toast you at the re-hash Bash on 2/7. I've got to bolt now, I'll check back, later.
I really think it is at a large park this year, which rules in the golf course parks and rules out Newell. If it is at a small park then I bet the clues don't lead us to the park unitl next monday. I hope not
I actually succumbed to Newell mania, thinking that the address is close to 945 Fairview, it's actually 920....Saint Paul is my home, but it has the most bizarre house numbering system
Hey Ian. Long time no talk to you (that was a pretty ugly attempt at communication!). Sorry I have zolt now, but Happy Hunting! Sass is my secret weapon this year.
Maybe they are given all this info so people will all go to Newell, but then if you go back to clue #2, it says stay away from the action so maybe they want people to go to Newell, then in clue 6-7 they will flip it around and lead us to another park. I dunno
Official Rules should be here at Pioneer Planet--they are published every day in the local section of the PP--Treasure Hunt is not run by Winter Carnival--just the folks at the paper...

I'll be in line starting friday night acting like I KNOW EVERYTHING, just like every year. Well actually, I did know everything in 97, but that didn't help my sorry butt either!!
Boss, I drove by crosby today and there were people diggin, but I don't believe they had a clue as to what they were doing. No action at newell all day though.
do like the kstp theory!! Haven't thought of that.
Phalen had over 1000 lawsuits coming from the hunt, do you think they would risk that again?
THEY DID NOT HAVE TROUBLE AT PHALEN I THOUGH IT WAS WAKEFIELD PARK IN MAPLEWOOD .PHALEN IS PARTLY IN ST PAUL.

5 on 5 is full strength though...justa shot in the dark, KS95 is good
Yes they did. I have friends who won in the lawsuit.
Mel
Nothing should be ruled out yet!
I may have jumped in the chat a little late, but I was wondering what anyone else thought of the "flying downhill" idea? Could it be downhill skiing, if that's the case it points to como.
Just for the information .... There is a fisbee golf tournament at Highland this weekend as part of the winter carnival.
so how many think that its at Newell???
Newell has a lot to look at too. But they don't have a golf course. Unless they are telling us to rule out parks with golf courses.
I wouldn't rule out Como Park at all since there is a golf course, and my kids go sledding there.
Battle Creek has a ski jump by it Mel

--------?????????????//
think that newell has it if there serious on "no golf" course but if not it would then be at como.
man do i want to win the medallion hunt
----------??????
There has to be a golf course, why else would they warn us??

I think that there serious on not being at a golf course. Just a thought though
Because people could be digging in the wrong park that has a golf course and do damage.

I think it's Highland--the airport is just down the hill.....
Make that hound earn its keep, Pat.

think is already been found
What about the theory of "flying downhill" and Downhill skiing????
How about a hill that you would go tubing or slidding down next to a baseball or tennis court...
See I am thinking that it has something to do with skiing or sliding, but Como has Downhill skiing so....
What could be the downhill thrill at newell?
Your all nuts, nobody has a "clue" yet!!(including me!!
good point fever.
I'll be in line starting friday night acting like I KNOW EVERYTHING, just like every year. Well actually, I did know everything in 97, but that didn't help my sorry butt either!!
the only downhill thrill at newell is a small childrens slide
has anybody else actually done much searching? i ve been out a couple times and not seem much activity
