It's time for the Medallion Hunt! The first clue will appear on PioneerPlanet just after midnight Saturday, Jan. 22. Come back here to compare notes with other treasure seekers, but be certain you read the rules on the Planet's Winter Carnival page.
that the medallion is at Newell, tell me how it ties in with clues 1, 2, and 3. Please. And do note my previous post regarding the idiocracy revolving around eliminating points of interest that aren't in the immediate vicinity. If you need, read back about a hundred posts and listen to already said conversation. (How I wish Mom revolved around an IRC server instead of this.)
the medallion can very well be at newell. the medallion is always buried in the middle of nowhere, and there is alot of snow to dig through. look at cherokee park people shoveled every where there and still didn't find it till one of the last days.
Snake: No can do, my friend, I lost a bet a long time ago, and I have to honor it. <grin> I've already gotten enough crap from it, so don't think that any further complaining will persuede me. :)
If your willing to be an iconoclast? so who in the past was an iconoclast--only 1---the "HIGHLANDERS"--destroyed churches and icons feuding and revolting against the catholic church in England--theres a HISTORY lesson for you DAVE!!
the only problem i have is if the damn thing isnt hidden until the later clues......it seems kind of weird every year when the parks are turned upside down that is still isnt found earlier
Clue #1 - "fairway" and "scene" = Fair VIEW Avenue bordering NP won't be "caught" = baseball reference (Midway Stadium) NP doesn't have a golf course
Clue #2 - I think this just says stay away from Como (or you'll get harassed by cops - daaaaaah)
Clue #3 - Numbers keep score - refer to a scoreboard or stadium 9 - 5 - 4: NP is in the 900 block of Fair VIEW you'll "shout" = fans cheering at nearby Midway Stadium
Also - Historical bonus: It's the 150th Anniversary of the PP (founded in 1849); Zach Taylor was President in 1849 - and guess what - Taylor Avenue runs right into NP. Not a clue yet but may show up later on.
If not NP (at this point in time) Please - someone explain why HP or Phalen for me?
Bill King you are the straight GENIUS of the cooler... you are sooo very right on with that!!!.... the dictionary and the thesaurus can back us up here...!!! unless someone by the name of como or phalen fits the descriotion of a person or persons who seek to destroy religious icons then highland is the place to be tomorrow!!!
thank you very much Barton--finally someone with a brain!!!-lol--its only making it obvious to those of us who just read the clues for what they mean---ill be there looking tomm with you--lol!! Let them waste their time not listening
I'm not gonna rule out anything you can't when you do this, but until everything doesn't fit, I'll stick with my little park. Don't get me wrong everything fits at Como too except the numbers, could be, but we'll have to see!
by suggesting that we should be an iconoclast it suggest that we should be HIGHLANDER's also!!! so hence people that dig in highland park are highlanders!!! and the treasure might belong to you
THERE YOU GO - Dave Med - Another one for NP. Although I've been a big advocate for NP. The only reason I'm not heading out there with my shovel is - a few of us figured NP out by clues 1,2,3 - I've doing this tooo long to know it's not that easy. But if you're out diggin tonight - NP is the place to be.
the only way it could be highland is the sliding hill, golf course and i believe there are numbers on top of the watertower, also the arena there is new 1 year old to be exact.
All of the clues so far have different ways of pointing too many parks but they all coincide with hIGHLAND--CLUE #4 WAS THE KEY TO GIVE hIGHLAND AWAY AS WHERE THE COIN IS!!
I'm with Matt on the too-soon "Annie Get Your Shovel" tendencies. Unless someone happens across it by chance, we're all still pretty much in the head-scratchin' stage. Now if there's a reference to Pabst or "PBR" or something focusing toward Pierce Butler Route, then I'd run off to Newell. By Saturday, believe me, even Cherokee will have trenches around the trash cans.
.....Some thoughts.....
Elimination Theory: If the first couple of clues were, in fact, clues pointing you away from parks rather than to them, then the bigs are all out.
Come Hither (But Not Too Close) Option: The stuff about golf courses and slides means you pretty much can limit your choices to the bigs, but to stay a good 4 away from the par 5 on the front 9.
Iconoclastic Blasticology: I have to believe they would focus more on the definition that means "attacks settled beliefs or institutions" rather than any definition that might have religious overtones. You never know who's gonna freak out about this sort of thing. (So, yes, the Lexington theory is valid.)
Revolutionary Parks!: You got 'cher Swede Hollow, yer Boyd, yer Prosperity Heights, yer College. They'd be crazy to force the $10K search into a small park, but with a merry-go-round of clues, folks just might be more spread out 'til the last days.
Golden: Thank you. :) At least now I've got an idea to work with. But I'm going to be stubborn to say that the allusion to golf course should hold very strong. We'll see, though. I like the Taylor bit, we'll have to see if it comes up; I'll stick with logic, for now.
Well, for Highland, though, here's what I've got. Clue by blue:
#1 - Highland has a golf course, easily mistaken for silly people wandering around in the dark. It also has a police station, (alluding to "caught" and "wrong scene")
#2 - Because of the damage done to Cherokee Park's sliding hill, I believe that there's a warning not to cut holes in the MANY sliding hills at Highland. I also believe that there can be some connection with "thrill," "nil," and the rest of the holes in that clue.
#3 - I have absolutely no clue about the first line of the stanza. However, the following: Nine - A nine-hole course of golf is adjacent; Five - Hwy 5 is also adjacent (creating somewhat a border); and Four - The police station across the street is known to be St. Paul precinct #4.
#4 - I haven't had time to look this one through, but the battle of Lexington (mentioned by Marhmallow) is definately a great way to reinforce it. More on that later.
Dave - I'll be at NP at 8 AM tomorrow - so I get to work an hour late. If they fire me - hell most guys who end up finding this thing are usually out of work anyway - so that's a good thing. I'll be in a brown subaru, with a dark green jacket, 8 AM - hope to see you there.
I believe the Lexington theory is just tooooooo much thinking...but then again--were all doing tooooooo much thinking--lol. Ibelieve clue #4 just simply gave us the park if you know your history??
Kevin--i need to know your screen-name--that 1 doesnt work
what is an iconoclast?
Bill- WHY do you say it is eliminating Newell? It doesnt say that at all does it?
