It's time for the Medallion Hunt! The first clue will appear on PioneerPlanet just after midnight Saturday, Jan. 22. Come back here to compare notes with other treasure seekers, but be certain you read the rules on the Planet's Winter Carnival page.

I think the clues are more Highland or Battle creek.
I think it might still be Como. You were harrassed there by actual cops? How do you know it wasn't med. hunters getting rid of the competition? I haven't been on yet today...anyone give me the thus far Highland clues?
does any one think it could be hilcrest in highland park.it fits all of the clues. does any one think it could be hilcrest in highland park.it fits all of the clues. does any one think it could be hilcrest in highland park.it fits all of the clues. does any one think it could be hilcrest in highland park.it fits all of the clues.
It was probably some sort of police or security at como. with activities like the snow slide they probably don't want people to get crazy and destroy things.
I think that it's time to be a little more quiet about como. Perhaps that's just me. The same thing about Phalen, talk a little more about WHY, something BESIDES "Hey, I think it's como." -- "I still think it might be como." Either that, or stop sharing your intuition. Your gut feeling goes little distance with just about everyone.
Highland has lots of action going on there. Frisbee is one of them. Cross Country Skiing. There are golf courses. I saw three sledding hills. And then, of course, Highway 94 intersects with Highway 5. On a map with both highways in view, you can see Highland wedged in there. So, if I'm in the right direction, I'll dig there until something tells me not to.
Oh, and, people, when you're feeling stupid because you just hit reload and posted your message again.... Perhaps I'll make this large.
If you find yourself repeatedly posting a message over and over again, *DO NOT* hit 'reload' or 'refresh' on your browser window. Instead, click on the linked number of the last message you see listed. (IE #50000 of 649380). That will cause a message lookup to be performed, not a post.
those cops just want the money and don't want to work, they figure if they get the info from general public they can sit back and eat more donuts before they get out of their car and walk 15 steps to pick up the med. while we rack our brains and freeze our asses off
I really strongly believe that the medallion will not be hidden in a place that can be overrun with people. That counts out small parks, or land like the capitol, any city streets, etc. I think that the Pioneer Press is a tad smarter than to dig themselves a hole full of trouble.
I don't see anything in the clues that point at a specific park.
If there is a golf course, stay away. Some type of downhill activity is in the park, but stay away from that too. The KS95 bit is a winner at this point!
I just got back from a 20 minute walk through at Newell Park and I do like it alot. Don't underestimate the size of this park. They are close to the action at Como, but still a shot away if they want to mislead u all. They have Softball/Baseball Field(9 players) and basketball court(5 players) and even a match to the 4. If you are out there Pat P. let me know what you think about the 4 at the front door of Newell park, it looks like a match!! And they adorn, without a doubt!
Clue #1 - "fairway" and "scene" = Fair VIEW Avenue bordering NP won't be "caught" = baseball reference (Midway Stadium) NP doesn't have a golf course
Clue #2 - I think this just says stay away from Como (or you'll get harassed by cops - daaaaaah)
Clue #3 - Numbers keep score - refer to a scoreboard or stadium 9 - 5 - 4: NP is in the 900 block of Fair VIEW you'll "shout" = fans cheering at nearby Midway Stadium
Also - Historical bonus: It's the 150th Anniversary of the PP (founded in 1849); Zach Taylor was President in 1849 - and guess what - Taylor Avenue runs right into NP. Not a clue yet but may show up later on.
If not NP (at this point in time) Please - someone explain why HP or Phalen for me?
grandma from long beach ca. has emailed her ideas...her vote is for highland baker, or newel...shes the expert, and has been at this alot longer than we have!!! go grams!!!
Just remember I think it Could very well be in Newell. More so than any other park right now. Newell. Newell. Newell. And maybe you could explain to me why it couldn't possibly be in Newell. And don't give me the so many people thingy!
Allie: So far, my place is Highland. There's absolutely nothing convincing about Como, Phalen, or ESPECIALLY Battle Creek. Hence my whining about people to shut up or tell the world their master plan. Either way, I'm finding a lot of stuff shoving toward Highland... such as, the police station (precinct 4, also allusions to clue #1, ...don't get caught... ...wrong scene...), hwy 5 on HPs northern border, I'm also curious as to knowing the number of schools... but that's a long shot. There's a golf course that you can EASILY mistake for the park, if you're not a native visitor (listen, people, they don't say, "Hey, don't go looking in a nuclear silo," when they're hiding it in the middle of nowhere... They didn't say "Don't go running down the bluffs into the river," last year, either. The site has a golf course that people should know about. Phalen's course is too distinguishable for me.), and there're multiple sledding hills. I'm not sure about the front door, nor am I positive that there's a scoreboard, or anything that would work. (Do remember that the clue doesn't call for a scoreboard, it just says that "numbers keep score," which is really starting to get me thinking that it's pointing toward somthing else.)
All in all, I'm probably going to go scout tonight, but am not going to dig unless tonight's clue is exceptionally remarkable.
Joe-------before you hate the game, learn to spell Newell. Dave, are you diggin at Newell tonight? I will right after clue#4 unless it points me somewhere else
I remember Birdie15, its your persistence and just hearing Pat joke so many times that sent me out there! I think clue 3 has a little more to do with actually seeing what is in a park and if you haven't been there then you don't know what it has now do u? :)
Highland has a 9 hole golf course(frisbee) and an 18 hole golf course. Four tennis courts. Four+5=9+9=18....Just a thought. I like it how the clues lead to every park, dont you?
I already went through there and kicked up the snow, covered the ground and checked out the entrance to the building :) I wont go back until daylight. At this point each of the next couple clues will have to prove myself wrong.
I think the clues are more Highland or Battle creek.
I agree brian

Thanks.
Any chance those "cops" were the medallion hiders, out to place the dang little puck just *before* it snows six inches???

nope definitely cops....full uniform and badges
Highland has lots of action going on there. Frisbee is one of them. Cross Country Skiing. There are golf courses. I saw three sledding hills. Chris, where is Hilcrest?
I'm definitely NOT saying to rule it out completely...I just thought it was so odd (como)

hilcrest is on ford parkway.its a rec center.
Thanks. Does it have a place to slide? And is it a public park?

Just got back from CP,HP,&BCP. It's good to get an idea of the layout of the parks.
Hay Matt....what's your prediction or ideas?
The medallion could be hidden in view of the Scoreboard and the 4th Hole in HP
it has a big hill to slide, it has a few base ball fields, tenis, and a ice rink.not sure if it is public i think it might.
I think you're right, Matt. It's prudent to have it in a larger park this year; like on a big football field or something.
But I won't rule anything out, even Como two years later.
Allie Go: We missed you at McGovern's. Hope to see you out hunting, and maybe this year you can make it to the rehash bash.
I don't see anything in the clues that point at a specific park.

Could it be on Highland's football field?
What is the KS95 thingy. I haven't heard that one yet.
nobody thinks it's in newll
I think that four is "fore" it goes with shout.
So, I spent some time across from the frisby golf course at highland. Across from the 9th hole.
highland football field is it public land
Hey Dave!
Explain more about the 4 adorning NP!
I am with you 100% Dave. I felt this at 12:00 last night
I think that four is "fore" it goes with shout.

Why Newell??

does anyone know why como has so many army trucks and stuff?
I don't think so, Birdie, because they were all fenced in.
grandma from long beach ca. has emailed her ideas...her vote is for highland baker, or newel...shes the expert, and has been at this alot longer than we have!!! go grams!!!

KS95 refers to "A nine and a five and somewhere a four." KS95 is actually 94.5 FM.
it could be highland parks foot ball field.i go there and remember 4 big traffic things on the field. does that help with any thing.

My first response was that the medallian is stuck to a calculator. (figure) and numbers
Joe-------before you hate the game, learn to spell Newell. Dave, are you diggin at Newell tonight? I will right after clue#4 unless it points me somewhere else
That was fun reading, Golden Boy!
I remember Birdie15, its your persistence and just hearing Pat joke so many times that sent me out there! I think clue 3 has a little more to do with actually seeing what is in a park and if you haven't been there then you don't know what it has now do u? :)
where is the downhill action in NP then?

it has only been hidden in newell once and that was back in 1984, if that helps at all
I went to Newell last night and was pleasantly surprised at the size. Its got a sledding hill in the trees as well.
I already went through there and kicked up the snow, covered the ground and checked out the entrance to the building :) I wont go back until daylight. At this point each of the next couple clues will have to prove myself wrong.
