It's time for the Medallion Hunt! The first clue will appear on PioneerPlanet just after midnight Saturday, Jan. 22. Come back here to compare notes with other treasure seekers, but be certain you read the rules on the Planet's Winter Carnival page.
Hollywood - there is. I was looking at streets98 on a machine and was playing with the different variations of 9,5,4 and major streets around some of the parks and sure enough when I got to Wheelock it popped up at the entrance of Phalen. So tied that into the phrase 'adorn the front door' meaning these numbers might be visible at the entrace of the park but then clue 4 makes me think it could also be at Highland.
The only reason I think it might be highland is it has some of the same qualities as Phalen but the numbers 9,5,4 must mean something else, I was thinking 9 hole course, hwy 5, and a 'somewhere a 4' referring to a golfer yelling four somewhere. It's like every year, the clues lead to a few parks possibly, it's still early though.

TMK - the sliding hill, and the 9,5,4, explanation I stated earlier. Also the reference to NEWELL park possibly, letting you know you might be in the right area. Again it might have nothing to do with NEWELL I also think in clue 4, it could be referring to some type of future study. 'studying the past, as well as the new?? I'm really not sure.
HEY HOW COME NO ONE HAS SUGGESTED HARRIET ISLAND? I WAS THINKING THAT MAYBE 95 AND SOMEWHERE 4 MEANS A PARK INBETWEEN HIGHLAND AND BATTLE = HARRIET ISLAND?????
Iconclast were also eastern orthodox in the 8 9th centuries. Are there any eastern orthdox churches aroun any of the parks?? I don't think flying down hill means sleding. What about the ski jump at battle creek
The numbers were spelled out "nine" I think this means that we should't look for an address or something wiht a number on it rather things with that number of objects such as baseball players 9 basketball players5 and double tennis players4
Newell is flat as a pancake--Its at Pierce Bulter Route and Fairview--mostly in an industrial area--Ramsey County Compost is directly across from there, and behind that, is Midway Stadium, home of the Saints.....
there not going to have the #'s mean an address, thats elementary, its been used every year, last night's clue used the word ICONOCLAST, out with the old and in with the new, there not going to stick to there old devent ways, another hint for you beginers iconoclast just might be a word jumble but i'll let you figure that out for yourself
Hewitt, Abram Stevens (b. July 31, 1822, Haverstraw, N.Y., U.S.--d. Jan. 18, 1903, Ringwood, N.J.), American industrialist, philanthropist, and politician who in 1886 defeated Henry George and Theodore Roosevelt to become mayor of New York City.
Hewitt, Peter Cooper (b. May 5, 1861, New York, N.Y., U.S.--d. Aug. 25, 1921, Paris, France), American electrical engineer who invented the mercury-vapour lamp, a great advance in electrical lighting.
Anybody for waste? Iconoclast? (caused the name of the city by the religious folks:
PIG'S EYE - The name by which St Paul was originally known, and the nickname of Pierre Parrant, first settler and notorious whiskey merchant of the city. By the late 1840's, this was also the name by which Grand Marais was often known. This usage has carried down to the present day, as that area is the site of the Twin Cities largest sewage treatment plant, known as the Pig's Eye Plant. Also in the 1990's, the name has become relatively famous as a popular brand of beer brewed by St. Paul's Minnesota Brewing Company.
Another thought.... Studying the past - history center near downtown is new..... Most notable iconoclast is Martin Luther who nailed his 95 feces 'er theses to the door of the catholic church during the reformation....
This fourth clue definately specifies one specific park...I knew it right away...now we need to see if the next couple clues isolate its location in this park.
Phalen was mentioned a few times. That's been about 15 years since last was found there. Is 954 on a house near the entrance on Wheelock Parkway.? Or will 954 be a clue into what it's hidden in? People assume that 954 is pointing to a park; but, it that might be totally off.
The old Ice Palace monument is in Phalen. Could that have something to do with the iconolastic?
Has anyone heard from sax this year???
Is it my computer or is this super slow?!

There are issues with the system Beth, I am having the same problem.
Well I am off for the rest of the day, but will probably stop by Newell tonight?
Good luck to ALL!
Will you be out tonight Sue Bee?

Serious, what from clue 4 makes you think it could be Highland?

Never mind Serious, you just answered my question...

Wampa - I might be out after 10 or so. have plans until then. may wait for clue 5 first . We'll see. Good luck!
Where is Newell by the way? Someone earlier said that it was north of Midway, but I looked it up on Mapquest and it showed that it was by Highland...
My husband used to deliver pizzas years ago and he said the police department is #4 in highland .I don't know for sure though.
HEY HOW COME NO ONE HAS SUGGESTED HARRIET ISLAND? I WAS THINKING THAT MAYBE 95 AND SOMEWHERE 4 MEANS A PARK INBETWEEN HIGHLAND AND BATTLE = HARRIET ISLAND?????
NEWELL, 9,5 and SOMEWHERE a 4 refers to KSTP, which is less then a 1/2 a mile away. and is clearly visable from any point in the park
MapQuest is wrong.
Newell is near Hamline U. in the Midway area, and is as close to Como as it is to Highland, if you can really call it close to either one.
Excellant Website for historic st paul people

I was thinking about Pigs Eye and Pierce Butler. (There are several)
I dont think they are really iconoclasts though
Iconclast were also eastern orthodox in the 8 9th centuries. Are there any eastern orthdox churches aroun any of the parks?? I don't think flying down hill means sleding. What about the ski jump at battle creek
rosco, if ya hear me answer back SMILEY
Is there sledding at Newell? And what the heck is up with iconoclast? Interesting use of the vocabulary....
The numbers were spelled out "nine" I think this means that we should't look for an address or something wiht a number on it rather things with that number of objects such as baseball players 9 basketball players5 and double tennis players4
Anybody know who Hewitt Was?
I went to Newell several days ago and there is a sledding hill in the trees. Not standard and dangerous, but well used.
newell park is on the southeast corner of peirce butler route and fairview ave
Newell is flat as a pancake--Its at Pierce Bulter Route and Fairview--mostly in an industrial area--Ramsey County Compost is directly across from there, and behind that, is Midway Stadium, home of the Saints.....
all clues point you to NEWELL, youwould have to be assinin to think other wise
No Dave, there is a sledding hill on the east side in the trees At Newell.
what about mounds park?
Anybody think it could be by the history center, its historical, and new......and on top of the hill
I wondered that too Dave, but is there a park around there, or is it public ground? And how would the other clues fit in?
in the dictionary iconoclast has the words highlander and sacred so maybe either mounds park or highland park
Anybody think of Blast as a "boom" Like maybe Boom Site?
Is there one in St. Paul on the river?
Well, it was found at the Capitol grounds, once, But, I could not think of any other park space nearby....

Here are two Hewitts
Hewitt, Abram Stevens (b. July 31, 1822, Haverstraw, N.Y., U.S.--d. Jan. 18, 1903, Ringwood, N.J.), American industrialist, philanthropist, and politician who in 1886 defeated Henry George and Theodore Roosevelt to become mayor of New York City.

Hey Hunting Hermy, hey it's rosco....what time are we going out tonight?
Another thought.... Studying the past - history center near downtown is new..... Most notable iconoclast is Martin Luther who nailed his 95 feces 'er theses to the door of the catholic church during the reformation....
Just brainstorming....
Hollywood...
,
Luther Seminary is on Como Ave. I thought of Luther when I read the clue.
I dont think como though.
Hollywood---get with it!!!! Don't be analyzing the word iconoclast, alright.
