It's not anything I have control over. They are slowly letting the server begin to route ip's. National is "Above" me so the info I get is trivial at best.... I am trying to do what I can for eveyone. :(

I know it's not anything you can help...just hoping to find out some idea of time before this is working better.

The claim they have brought the server back online.

But I have no idea how much traffic they are letting it handle.

They are saying the servers are now back online at 100%.

Took a while to read all that. There's not usually so much blood spattered on the walls. I was kind of hoping someone could maybe draw me a diagram of who is on what side as I'm kind of lost. I'm not sure if I was in the secret thread or not. If I was, I didn't have time to read it or even look for it. I'm kind of disappointed though. It sounds like no one hated me, and I tried so hard with this last Mock Hunt too. But like I said, I never read the thread so I could be wrong.

So what to say after the fire has already almost died out?

I guess I'll start by saying I don't think having a secret thread is an issue so much when it comes to talking about life in general (I have different feelings on the Treasure Hunt). It's just a venue like an IM, telephone call or whatever. Apparently a little more vulnerable to being made public, but still a venue nonetheless. To me the real issue is that people talk about other people that way whatever the venue. Or even that they think it in the first place. I can see it with someone like Jake where he at times would make a point of playing with people and forced you to have a reaction. But this year in particular I've been hearing a lot about who people don't like and who they wish would just go away. And in general they're not people I have a problem with at all.

On the other hand, while there's no one in the CoolerCrew I don't like, there are some who I guess you could say bore me. It's not that I think there's anything wrong with them. It's more that I just feel we don't have all that much in common and so I tend not to seek them out much. I might even tend to skim or skip over their posts, but I would never think they don't belong here. To me that seems like a sufficient solution. I don't recall ever saying anything bad about them.

That's not to say I never gossip about people. I have something of a reputation for it in other groups I'm in. But I think talking about other people isn't an inherently bad thing. It can be if your intention is to put them down and turn other people against them purposely, but there are other reasons to talk about someone. Sometimes it's because you do like them and care about them and you're worried they may be making a mistake that will do them harm. Other times you may have a feeling about someone that you're not sure is justified and so you want to find out if other people feel the same way and that your feelings are then justified. The problem of course with the latter is that just because someone else feels the same way, doesn't make it right and the validation we get from having people agree with us can then become dangerous.

Personally I just try to look for the good in people and not pay attention to the bad if I can avoid it. It's not always a perfect strategy, but I think it makes me a generally happier person. And with something like the treasure hunt that's usually easy to do. When you see people for only two weeks a year, it's easy to see just the good side. But now we've progressed beyond that stage of familiarity and as they say, familiarity breeds contempt. As the Cooler Crew has gotten closer, differences become more pointed. For example, as long as everyone is being honest, I always thought THX was a prude. I'm sure he thought I was a pervert. We're probably both right. But that's something that's simply not going to come up when you're trying to figure out what Clue #7 means. So unfortunately everyone has only two options. One is to maintain a certain distance as many many people do who we only see once a year. Or you accept that we're all different and not entirely compatible and make the most of it. You can't make people be what you want them to be.

I will disagree with OTS on one thing. When Coolertimes first came out, it didn't seem like it was just "your" website. I recall a lot of pressure for everyone to submit a bio because this was something that we as an entire group needed to do. I recall thinking at the time, "Why do we need another site when we already have Coolercrew.com?" And that's not to say that Coolertimes didn't turn into something neat and useful, but I think it did start off on the wrong foot and thus was taken as a bit of an insult and it all went downhill from there. It would be sort of like if someone else came out with a Treasure Hunter's Guide that seemed fairly similar to Steve's. One would wonder why we needed it and might even feel bad buying it over Steve's. But if instead someone came out with say a book of aerial photographs of parks, people would then want both and wouldn't feel like they had to choose. I think that was improved over time, but it had that feel to it in the beginning.

Still, all in all, it's really a rather minor thing to have caused such an uproar. Kind of like the whole world going to war because some noble in Hungary got shot. It was all about entangling alliances.

Finally I'll say it's sad to see THX want to quit as the stern controller. You certainly kept life around here interesting. They will be hard shoes to fill.

First off, I think you're a big jerk AW, I've said that all along. Jerk, jerk, jerk. And a pervert.

I will disagree with OTS on one thing. When Coolertimes first came out, it didn't seem like it was just "your" website. I recall a lot of pressure for everyone to submit a bio because this was something that we as an entire group needed to do. I recall thinking at the time, "Why do we need another site when we already have Coolercrew.com?" I think that was improved over time, but it had that feel to it in the beginning.

I think in this case I didn't understand what the big deal was until I stepped into OTiS's shoes and looked at it from his perspective. He joined the crew at a time in which the crew was a in a bit of turmoil with outsiders, at first you had the puck posse and then others at the new and downgraded twincities.com board that were saying whatever it was they were saying about us. I think at that time, outsiders were justified in thinking such things, of course we all know they just had to get to know us and talk to us and they would find out they were wrong (as the puck posse is now among us mostly). Basically you had an impersonal image of a large group of people that already knew each other, and it was somewhat intimidating. From discussing this with Dan, I pretty much have deduced that the idea behind the bios and pictures was to put a more personal touch on the cooler crew and thus make us seem a little more inviting, and I think it was a great idea. I personally never saw fault in it (even before I knew Dan at all), because it was nothing like coolercrew.com, I saw them to be as seperate as Kings Commons or Treasure Hunt Headquarters with coolercrew.com.

Oh, and I wish someone would make a different map book, Steve is really losing it... did you guys see his map of Crosby? Come on.

Oh and I was kidding, you're not a jerk you are just an insightful secret society guy that scares children.

For what it's worth... my 2 cents... and you can ask Green....

When we first heard of the Cooler Crew.... Pay Me thought it was a bunch of 15 year olds running about in the woods.

Sorry Tim :)

I collect rocks ;) & $2 bills-me2

I don't collect rocks but I do try to collect money. If you want to add to my collection I will apprciate it very much. Any denomination is good.

my personal opinion, otis is that there's no reason for you guys to be using national dns servers on your network. it forces name lookups to go to a national level from customers, when the vast majority of them could be handled at a local level to the root dns servers via the local pop. puts the traffic on someone else's network. :)

What language is that!?

Did you know that ducks pull up worms & eat them like robins? I didn't, until this week.

I didn't know that ducks ate robins! Maybe instead of hunting cats in wisconny they should be hunting ducks to save the birds.

I'm a prude?

Yeah, I can see that.

Anyway...

I've been racking my brain for days, wondering what to say and exactly how to say it. I could ramble for hours, but I'll try not to because you don't want to read it, and I don't have the time.

I thought OTiS and Pay Me were being treated unfairly. For the record, I would have been just as angry if I thought ares & TC were being treated unfairly. I think a lot of it was just misunderstanding, and grew from there.

We never made a jab at TC because of her being knighted. I honestly thought it was cool she got knighted. She did a bunch of work with the Zeph thing. It's not my sort of thing, and I honestly wouldn't have put forth the effort. It's something she can be proud of, and I told her so when in a private conversation I told her she should go ahead and change her username to "Lady". I also proceeded to advertise the fact in my tagline. I did that in earnest and hope it was never taken as a joke or jab.

When OTiS originally created his web-site I thought it was kind of weird because he was so new. I even mentioned it to Scribe and her response was something to the effect that they (OTiS and Pay Me) just loved the Cooler Crew and were excited to be part of such a great group. Which made sense to me, but my point is, I may not have seen it that way if not for Scribe's wisdom. So, I have no doubts that OTiS never intended to step on anyones toes. He was just excited to be a CoolerHead.

That's all I've got to say. I just hope bygones can be bygones and those I may have offended and hurt can forgive me.

I've no hard feelings on this end. Nothing I can't get over.

If this doesn't suffice, we can have a drawn out and drag out. I don't mind, I just may not be able to get to it right away.

All that being said, come back Sue.

Wow man, seems like I've missed all sorts of drama around here lately. I hope we can all work it out like grown adults. Cause I love you guys!

I had a medallion dream the other night. It was kinda odd. I found the medallion but kept forgetting to get to Ma Press. And by the time I got there, there was someone else with the medallion getting awarded the prize. And it turns out mine was false. I totally remember digging it up and how excited I was to find it tho. Might be as close as I'll ever come!

Also, for anyone that's interested.. I'm having plastic surgery on May 10th and documenting it on my blog. It's the end of a long road for me, and I'm documenting it for anyone else that could benefit from my story.

Please stop by my sites:
