I beleive that they won't jump the gun this qucik at the PP and tell us a park by actual street name. If they give us streets, it will be streets enroute to the park If it is a street refrence, it will be one leading up, or a near by street, or a street that use to excist
I also like how it fits BC. I wouldn't rule it out just bc it was there in 06. Remember that park is even bigger than Como. I like the "dual citizenship" reference to Boxmeyer and BC is in 2 cities.
Maybe maplewood relented and they hid it in their end of the park.
no, not at all. Theres 2 meanings to the clues. The literal translation, thats its about the hunt history and it used to be tramping over hills, now on your dell computer etc. Then theres also a part about the park.
I'm thinking BC right now. I like the golf there, tramping=jail, Boxcars across 61, frontAGE road to get there, contest=battle, unleash=dog park, etc.
whoops, hit the wrong button.... I also like the dedication thats in the park about the guy thats resting in peace carved on the caves there. Dennison, father of skiing....19xx to 1988
Yea I know one meaning is boxmeyer, but this is the 2nd meaning.
One of Mr. Boxmeyer's last columns was from Aug 2008. He wrote about a Polish Union Hall closing and how they provided Booya's for years and how those will be missed.
Well, Highland has that big Booya Hall/pots.
But I may be trying to fit clues into Highland. I just can't deal with BC. So big and far from me and I really like it when the Hunt is in the City.I have so many fond memories of St Paul itself. My grandma lived across the street from Como Park.
Boy, it seems like every year we get some sort "hill and dale" or "hill and dell" clue. I just can't get that excited about that as a clue yet.
this could be a tie-in to the "history remains a mystery"
(from PP board)
In 1842, a territorial battle between the Dakota and Ojibwe people spread to the area. The exact details and long history are not fully known, but to revenge a raid by the Dakotas, some Ojibwe people sought to attack Kaposia, a settlement located in an area now known as South St. Paul. Two Dakota women were killed as they gardened. A group of Dakota, alerted by the gunfire, chased after the Ojibwe group and defeated them. This conflict has given the creek that flows from a lake in Maplewood to Pigs Eye Lake and the surrounding neighborhood a name: Battle Creek.
That was Eugene Thompson and he did hire someone else to kill her.
If I remember correctly she ran outside with the knife in her back...
I don't remember if she lived or not.
Eugene went to prison for life at Stillwater, (this next part I'm not sure of) but I guess he got out a few years back and had to be placed out of State. He was an Attorney
I'm still stuck on the idea that in dedication to Don,the treasure is going to be in a box (again) like his first hide wrapped up in a "mile" of tape. Those were his words on NTECF. While I was watching it he sure seemed to get a kick out of watching the fellow who found it unwinding all that tape discreetly.
From talking with him ( as brief as that was...) He sure enjoyed watching us get all frenzied up, he loved to switch gears and send you way out on a limb... I think we may see a lot that can be taken as a 'red herring' if this is indeed done in a style he would like.
I'm sure it's been mentioned, but "contests waged of yore" sounds to me like the park has lots of games and activities: golf, basketball, baseball, tennis, etc.
There was a tournament of some kind on lake Phalen that ended right before the hunt started. I wanna say it was ice-skating but I don't remember off-hand for sure.
I had thought of the ice fishing contest they used to hold on White Bear Lake. But when I look at that clue it makes me think of the old hockey rivalries of yore and the bragging rights of the winners even years later. We are The State of Hockey after all.
OK first off didn't the clues use to be posted at the top of this thread instead of in a thread all of it's own?
Secondly what do you think about this meaning something more along the lines of early years of treasure hunting the treasure was hidden in more than just the city of St. Paul (remember they haven't given us that yet) and the discussion that happens each year about whether or not it can or will be in a different city? Nobody seems to know whether they are "allowed" to hide it in Maplewood...I am liking Battle Creek but it's still early.
The idea of having a link to the clues is to prevent all the load time and the huge heading if the hunt goes long.
I watched the NTFCF video last night. I paid particular attention to the comment that nothing was ever passed by the Maplewood City Council banning the hunt. It's open to have it put there.
I was just thinking you may hear tell about the contests before...people have all sorts of stories about why it will never be in Maplewood...maybe it's in the maplewood side of BC this year? Just putting out my first real noodle for the year...I also like the dog leash (unleash) thing kind.....
Flaketown aka Forest Lake
Changing gears, Random info to throw out that I came across searing for Murder Mysteries in St Paul

also "hill and dell, you may hear tell"
Mayhill Rd.

To me that is what I think
Of course, I have been digging in the wrong park when it's been found before.
How obvious was 'a not very white Christmas'?
It's never too early!!!
But I think everyone is too quick to jump on the Battle Creek because of the contests of yore.
If that does indeed refer to historic battles, there are other parks that would fit just as easily.
And the fact that it says contest makes me think of things other than conflicts.
For example, carved into the cliff at Battle Creek Park in St. Paul, Minnesota is "Pete Dennison - Father of Skiing 1908-1988."
Just my thoughts maybe right maybe wrong
I'll know when I find it
HEHE LOL I'm being optimistic
I'm more focused on where....
If i'm in a park looking, im gonna look in whatever I come across....
that being said, I was at B.C., Swede Hollow, and Como today, combing all 3 for a buncha hours....
Not sure if I'll be downtown for the clue.... I may get it it online, and head out afterwards....
Harding has always sucked at Hockey...
but I'm biased....
About the contests waged of yore
Much of the history remains a mystery
Which we hope to bring to the fore

Only thing this means is that I must obviously be good luck.
