2009 - Swede Hollow

Submitted by Clue Master on
Terry

I have googled, googled and googled, followed links, and nothing solid about the mole/German doll.

I am thinking that the mole and the German doll have the same name or variation of the same name - but not the same person. If a doll from Germany is a Lilli, there must be a gangste's mole with some form of that name, likely Lilly or Lily.

Or...being the German doll was the predecessor of the Barbie, and "Barbie doll" is a slang term somewhere (maybe England but I can't remember for sure) for mole, that Barbie, Barbara, Barb, Babs could mean something.

I swear I'm not going to google nothing more about this nonsense. Somehow it will all become clear.

OK ..... so my short list is Swede, IM, BC, Cherokee, Harriet !!! My short list was shorter the first day!

We're suppose to narrowing in on a park not expanding.

And I wonder why I'm not out digging today :eyeroll:

he grew up in Swede Hollow, and is the only living person I still know that did....

everyone else is long gone...

I think we may head out and at least do some scouting and thinking. We have been invited to dinner with our son and daughter-in-law.

I'm not convinced of any one park yet.

7 1/2 hours till the next clue. :frown:

They may be open late... they have a bar so...

We ate there yesterday, the owner seemed pretty excited at the prospect of it being there.

FYI when we were at the paper last night we saw Yarusso's shuttle van parked out front.... Maybe they're shuttling they're medellion hunting customers.

Your know the problem with coming home after 8 hours of active shoveling is that you have to look at your driveway....

We just got home from downtown. Rice Park was jammed with people looking at the ice sculptures. The streets around Rice were very busy. Not bad for a cold day in January. Did a little recon downtown and drove past Swede Hollow. Seeing all those people walking on the hillside reminded me of spotting deer up north.

"anna sage" was

1934- Public Enemy #1-John Dillinger was shot down by G-Man Melvin Purvis coming

out of the Biograph Theater on Lincoln Ave. in Chicago. He had just seen Clark

Gable and Myrna Loy in Manhattan Melodrama. Dillinger 's identity was betrayed

by Anna Sage, the Woman in Red, a German-Romanian prostitute who didn't want

to be deported. As they came out of the theater Purvis shouted “STICKEM UP JOHNNIE!” Dillenger went into a crouch and went for his gun. Purvis and his men blew him away. Anna Sage was deported anyway. Melvin Purvis became the most famous lawman in America and in so doing earned the enmity of his publicity-hungry boss J. Edgar Hoover. Hoover slowly hounded Purvis out of the bureau and ruined his career. In 1961 Purvis took his own life with the same gun used to kill Dillinger. The F.B.I. sent no flowers or condolences to his family despite his being their greatest single field agent.

I have heard of the show Cities of the Underworld. There was one episode in November about the subways of NYC; I was living there for college then. History Channel covered some of the subway cars up in cool Cities of the Underworld wrap; spooky looking down there with all those subways and tons of people everywhere with the creepy looking covered up subways "Cities of the Underworld!" You haven't lived until you've been on the NYC subways! :goofy:

We are back from our scouting trip. There were three or four people hunting at Kellogg, 2 at Mounds, maybe 10 at Cherokee, a couple in Lilydale (but some vehicles parked and no one to be seen), we needed to get back so didn't do much but a quick run near Swede Hollow - definately more people there than anywhere else we cruised through.

I don't like Lilydale as "the" park. Cherokee certainly is possible. I strongly doubt IM at this point in time.

Oh! There was a brothel down behind/under where the new Science Museum is that was uncovered when they were building that new structure. I meant to look to see if that was visible from Cherokee, but forgot. I'm guessing it is.

William Hamm, Jr., was the heir to the brewery fortune and, on June 15, 1933, was kidnapped near the brewery by the Barker-Karpis gang. Hamm was taken to Bensenville, Illinois, until the ransom was paid, and then was left in a vacant field in Wyoming, Minnesota, on U. S. Highway 61. None of the Hamm ransom money was ever found

another hunt??? who with me

Just a refresher because its so darn hard to find it: "To see an owner walk his poodle"

Anagrams to:

Is Near Open Oak, Swede Hollow -- or --- Oh It's Swede, Look Near Paw

Explanation of the numbers:

(1) is First Lutheran Church - scene of Boxmeyer's Funeral and bearer of the Large Red Lit Up CROSS you can see clearly right about now (dusk) - Its address is Maria Avenue, but North (STAR) Street ends next to it

(2) is an extremely large tree with its trunk portion "open" facing the creek - it's been dug throughly -by Jake and others- and I think it's a cottonwood, not an oak

(3) is a small ridge the rises higher than the tunnel entrance - there is a small Red Oak Tree about 15 feet tall in the OPEN- Brass Monkey, Myself and bunch of others have dug around it and some of the hillside near it - the infamous stairs are to the east, and the 'stonehenge' rock sculpture is that smooth green mound just above it

My son drove truck in st paul for two. Went downtown frequently; we used to meet at parks on his lunch hour during hunts.

He thought of the Wabasha Caves the minute I read 8th clue to him. Thinks it is really within shot of Harriet.

I just have Harriet-phobia so haven't followed up there, yet...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Greenbrier

The Greenbrier is a Mobil four star and AAA Five Diamond Award winning luxury resort located in the town of White Sulphur Springs in Greenbrier County, West Virginia. For most of its history it was owned by the Chesapeake & Ohio Railway. It is now a wholly owned subsidiary of CSX Corporation. Every U.S. president since Dwight Eisenhower has stayed at the resort's presidential suite, although not necessarily while in office.

The Greenbrier is also the site of a massive underground bunker that was meant to serve as an emergency shelter for the United States Congress during the Cold War.
