2009 - Swede Hollow

Someone last night mentioned a North Star. Driving through Harmar, I noticed there was a North Star fitness. SO I started to search google for North Star businesses in Saint Paul. What do I come up with?

North Star Academy. An Academy seams like a place for both the Good and the Bad.

BUT North Star Academy is located at Gustavus Adophus Lutheran Church. So I googled Gustavus Adophus What do I find out.

Gustavus Adophus Is Sweedish, and he was a King.

His wife, the queen, was GERMAN. Her name was Maria Eleonora.

The Church/School is located at 1669 Arcade, Across the street from Phalen.

The star-crossed place brings the role in of a church and school being combined. In the news there is big talk with mixing religion and schools together. Its bascailly something that we use to do, but now its no good because of all the religions, as if Religion should of never should of been brought up and people knew from the begining it could of caused problems.

That is some mighty fine noodlin' there, Mr. Tom.

But... He, Gustavus was a king, not gangster... The German doll was the mobster's girlfriend - moll.

Thanks for putting it all together on one map. That is very cool. How did you figure out where to put the #2 for that big tree? I know the tree you are talking about, but when I am down in the hollow it is hard for me to picture where a location relates to everything outside of it...

"Municipal Forest

Most of the twenty-acre forest was given to the city by the state in 1920. It had been part of the fish hatchery property but it was either too hilly or too far away from the main headquarters to be useful.

Empson decided to write about one of the more unusual aspects of this area’s history—the story of “Matron’s Grove.” It seems that in 1916, the local chapter of a woman’s club called the Order of Eastern Star wanted to plant memorial trees for its past matrons in the public park. If you go down to “Six Corners,” the old name for the intersection of Burns, Point Douglas and Clarence and head up the hill and look to the south, you can still see the star pattern of trees that were planted in “Matron’s Grove.”

Dayton's bluff newsletter. Has anyone seen this star wooded area?

I used to work with Vic Tedesco's daughter Elizabeth until she passed away a few years ago. Nice lady.

Vic is quite the character and community leader. I think his band is named after him. Plays the sax, city councilman, own many radio stations.

He still performs at the State Fair in the Ramburg Senior Center.

From Macabee's book: "When it opened in October 1933, the Castle Royal promoted itself to newspapers as “The World’s Most Gorgeous Underground Nite Club.” Its motto, “Fit for a King,” referred to opening night entertainment by Juan King and his ten-piece Castle Royal Orchestra. (45-46)"

just back from a full day at sh digging a lot with new daddy and then later nimrod then jake, bfg, medhunter, map guy. also saw mikey, mnm, zeph, cm, me2, becks and her sister, and probably a few more that I'm missing.

there were probably less people than yesterday! where is everyone? the time to dig is now!!!!

yarussos is awesome, the lady that seems to be the owner is super nice to us and has been very smart in marketing to hunters. they were making up a batch of "medallion dagos" to put in heated pack to bring into the park and sell. then if the medallion ends up being there they'll probably keep them on the menu.

My dad grew up in the daytons bluff area and has been an eastsider for 50+ years and had never been there. Now we'll be going back regularly thanks to mainly their level of service and how nice both the owner and also our waitress from yesterday have been.

My husband played softball for Yarusso's a long time ago. We'd go there after the games. Always good food and friendly people. One of the players on his team lived in one of those big houses on the edge of SH to the east. They had 14 kids and bought what had previously been a rest home.

I have a good lead on a new park. I'm a little hesitate to divulge as I'm afraid to look like a nutcase heading to some obscure park when I know all along it's at Harriet. I 100 percent refuse to believe it's at SH. Then again, I've been wrong so many time in the past that I have little credibilty left. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I'm probably off chasing unicorns, yettis, and merman (methaphorically speaking off course). In summary, I guess I don't really know what I'm talking about.

I've said this a million times already- I don't think its SH. Its too small of a Park to spill the beans on by an Anogram so early. People were looking at SH as early as Wedensday: for a park that small I think its too small.

Might I make a suggestion? Start shuffling the clues. You can probably leave Clue 1 as Clue #1, but try shuffling the sequences around. Maybe another park will rear its ugly head.

I was as SH late afternoon and must have been 100 people all over the park. I was there for a geocache, mostly, and poked around a little bit too. I went pretty close to where I think 666 meets 666 (street addresses) and found a tall, dead, barkless tree. I dug around it and found a crushed aluminum can, which raised my pulse for a moment. Lots of people have been all over that park, even on the slopes. Getting down the hill again was slow going.

Heh, bad pun here - but losing colic - Minnehaha = minnie haha = little laughs

Thats awesome. They are extremely personable.

got some digging done but no luck yet.

My favorite landmark seen from the park is the statue of liberty on top of Yarusso's. I know there are like 3 or 4 ideas for "Sweet Land". But my favorite is sweet land of LIBERTY  (top of yarusso's)

there is a Liberty Bail Bonds, Statue of Liberty, Sweetland the movie. and the sweet smell of the brewery.
