Don't jump to conclusions...

While the gangster's moll, a German doll

Once played at this star-crossed place

It doesn't say that this place is in the Twin Cities. It could be referring to the Cotton Club in NYC or The Green Mill in Chicago or ??? Just keep an open mind! I don't see this clue fitting SH or the two parks I've kept in my radar. Huh! Are we back at Square 1?

My dad once lived there when he was down on his luck. It was seedy back in the '70's.

I'm picturing the German moll lived near the park - or hung out in an establishment near the park. Seems most of the gansters came from Michigan. I haven't found where they lived in St. Paul yet. Wish I had that book...

First Lutheran is on Maria but North runs into the parking lot, and if I remember right, a corner of the church

But could Maria be the german doll?

It seems most likely that a gangsters german doll would most likely have preformed in the wabash street caves. I'm still at Harriet.

Sound of Music - Maria (Pronounced differently) was Austrian?

West Side Story - Maria - Puerto Rican

The name Maria is a baby girl name. The name Maria comes from the German origin. In German The meaning of the name Maria is: Bitter.

FYI - There is a link at the top of this thread for the clues.

If one goes to the 2009 Hunt Folder (of which this thread is a part), there is a read only thread with the clues. It's updated as soon as I can get the clue formatted.

You can open that in another window. It's what I do to try to keep these crazy clues ready for further noodling.

If Maria is correct for a German doll, we have a street name.
Sat, 01/24/2009 - 10:15 PM Permalink
tom

If its at SH- Maria would be the street name for the star-crossed.

I agree.

Hope we're right.

I'm drowning in google  -- Can't find anything that makes sense tonight. Lots of neat gangsta history though. KNEW I should have taken the St. Paul gangster tour before now .

saints and sinners, church on Maria, police station on 7th

But I have a feeling its not at SH. Clue 1 told us SH with the church- and I can't see the PP giving us a park clue 1 unless they didn't drop it yet.

Clue #1

Oh great King Boreas, make winter glorious:

Unleash the medallion quest!

We'll be up front: We devote the hunt

To Box, our friend, now at rest

Doesn't say church. We just noodled that part.

except the police station on 7th doesn't house criminals or "sinners" (assuming our cops are on the up & up)

Rumor has it Sarah Palin took that tour while she was in town.
Sat, 01/24/2009 - 10:20 PM Permalink
tom

I know we noodled that: but it seamed like every night a clue came out, we got SH out of it somehow, more as in it giving us a name with the words to a park name.

That detention could be a school - not necessarily a jail or workhouse.

And one thing I was noodling earlier today was that often things are brought up in clues that are near the site, but not necessarily adjacent to or visible from the medallion's hiding spot.

Two clues from Como for sure...the French Immersion school and the Gabe's by the Park (Bandana).
Sat, 01/24/2009 - 10:25 PM Permalink
tom

I like the Bandana one.

That French School may have moved....not exactly sure, tho. I read it in my researching for something else and just read it quickly.

I don't know if its still a french school but last I heard the school on VanSlyke is still open. Its actually St Andrew's Church's building, and they just rent it to the Public Schools.
Sat, 01/24/2009 - 10:28 PM Permalink
Terry

Yup. It's moved.

The two Como hunts I was referring to were 1997 and 2003.
